Manager, Engineering - Data Science

Role overview Step into a remote leadership role building the AI backbone of a creator-commerce platform that drives billions in annual retail sales across more than 160 countries. You will lead a team of data scientists working on recommendations, retrieval, ranking, semantic understanding, and conversational AI, partnering with engineering, product, and brand teams to translate business goals into scalable AI solutions.

Responsibilities - Lead and develop a team of data scientists focused on AI platform and conversational AI capabilities - Drive development of LLM-powered workflows with attention to cost efficiency and production readiness - Provide technical guidance on modeling, experimentation, evaluation, and deployment - Own team execution to ensure features ship on time at high quality - Hire, coach, and retain strong data science talent; set clear expectations and provide direct feedback

Requirements - 7+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or applied AI roles - 3+ years managing data scientists or equivalent project leadership and mentorship - Experience building and deploying machine learning models in production - Strong foundation in recommendation systems, ranking, retrieval, NLP, and applied statistics - Hands-on experience with LLMs, advanced RAG, and workflow-based AI systems - Strong Python and SQL skills plus familiarity with AWS, GCP, or Azure

Nice to have - Background in marketplace, social commerce, or recommendation-driven products - Experience with large-scale or real-time data systems
