Job details
About this role
Role overview The Staff Security Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor who helps protect infrastructure, products, and customer data within a regulated fintech environment focused on digital assets. The role spans application, product, infrastructure, enterprise, and observability security, partnering closely with engineering, platform, risk, compliance, and product teams. A defining expectation is an AI-forward working style: using AI tools, agents, and automation to scale security work across detection, response, testing, and engineering. The position is remote-friendly across Canada, with optional access to office spaces in Montreal and Toronto.
Responsibilities - Design and drive security solutions across product, internal applications, infrastructure, enterprise systems, and observability. - Conduct threat modeling for existing systems and new product initiatives, and embed security into development and delivery workflows. - Build, tune, and automate security alerts, detections, and response workflows, applying AI and agents where they increase scale and effectiveness. - Participate in and help lead incident response as part of the on-call rotation. - Support governance, compliance, and regulatory efforts such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI. - Mentor engineers, share security best practices, and help shape security priorities alongside internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Requirements - 8+ years of experience in security engineering, software engineering, or a related technical discipline, with meaningful time spent in security. - Strong technical depth in one or more security domains, with the ability to operate effectively across adjacent ones. - Advanced, hands-on experience using AI tools, agents, and automation to scale security engineering work. - Experience working in cloud environments (AWS preferred) and hands-on incident response and on-call rotation experience. - Strong communication skills, technical judgment, and a clear sense of ownership. - Fluency in English, required given the customer base and platform reach.
Nice to have - Experience in fintech, crypto, or other regulated environments. - Exposure to product security and influencing product design, or AI-assisted security testing, offensive security, vulnerability research, or detection engineering. - Knowledge of Bitcoin and eagerness to deepen it, plus comfort with Git/GitHub for collaboration.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-friendly across Canada, with optional access to offices in Montreal and Toronto. - Base salary range of 225,000–275,000 CAD, plus equity, health and dental coverage, wellness spending accounts, and paid time off. - Stock options for every employee, a generous AI token budget, and a $2,000 annual learning budget for courses, certifications, and training. - 20 days of vacation per year, with a $1,000 bonus if all vacation is used, and parental leave top-up to 100% of salary for 18 weeks. - Quarterly performance and salary reviews, plus team and company-wide offsites to connect in person.
