Senior Backend Engineer, Agents

Role overview

Join the Agents Engineering Team as a Senior Backend Engineer, owning projects that power high-traffic document experiences used by millions of people every day. The work spans core workflows like document viewing and editing, embedding and exporting content, and integrations that connect the platform to the broader tool ecosystem. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to deepen a Python-based backend while shaping the technical direction of an evolving product surface.

Responsibilities

- Build and ship backend features in a Django monolith, covering core document workflows (viewing, editing, embeds, exports) as well as new greenfield services that expand platform capabilities - Improve reliability and performance by tuning database queries, endpoint latency, and caching strategies across user-critical paths - Partner with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver intuitive, dependable experiences at scale - Contribute to architecture discussions, balancing near-term delivery with longer-term evolution of the system - Uphold engineering quality through thoughtful code reviews, meaningful test coverage, and attention to observability

Requirements

- 5+ years of experience building backend applications at high scale and availability - Extensive professional experience with Python in production - Strong skills in endpoint performance tuning and database query optimization - A track record of advocating for and practicing automated testing - Familiarity with engineering best practices around code quality, reviews, and operational health - A user-centric, empathetic approach and genuine passion for the work

Nice to have

- Hands-on experience with Django - Prior startup experience in a fast-moving environment - Exposure to PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery with AmazonMQ, and AWS infrastructure managed through Terraform
