Job details
About this role
Role overview
Own high-impact backend, infrastructure, developer-experience and security initiatives as a staff-level individual contributor. You will work across engineering teams, identify and scope ambiguous problems independently, make architectural decisions, and deliver large technical efforts from initial analysis through production operation.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, reliable and maintainable backend and platform systems. - Lead cross-team architecture discussions and align stakeholders around technical direction. - Drive broad initiatives such as database write-scaling, CI/CD modernization, infrastructure migration and shared-service extraction. - Build and maintain internal infrastructure and tools using cloud services, containers and infrastructure-as-code. - Own observability, logging, availability and operational excellence, including participation in on-call support. - Mentor engineers, improve engineering practices and identify useful opportunities for automation and AI-assisted development.
Requirements
- At least eight years of backend engineering experience, including several years in a staff-level or technical leadership capacity. - Strong software-engineering fundamentals that transfer across programming languages and cloud platforms. - Demonstrated ownership of large, ambiguous technical initiatives, ideally within platform or infrastructure engineering. - Experience designing and scaling distributed systems in cloud-native environments; AWS experience is preferred, while strong Azure experience can also transfer. - Practical experience with containerized services and infrastructure-as-code, particularly Docker and Terraform. - Ability to write and maintain unit and integration tests independently, plus fluent English communication.
Nice to have
- Experience with C#/.NET, PostgreSQL, AWS, ECS or Kubernetes. - Experience establishing infrastructure-as-code from the ground up or migrating from another approach. - Familiarity with Kafka or comparable event-driven and streaming systems. - Hands-on use of AI coding assistants and the communication skills to help other teams adopt new engineering tools.
Benefits and work setup
- Flexible office, home or hybrid working, with the role based in Munich and remote options within Germany or elsewhere in Europe through an employment partner. - International working environment, structured feedback, learning budget and career-development framework. - Thirty days of paid holiday, public-transport support in Germany, wellness membership and regular team events.
