Remote job
Software Engineer - AI Tooling Infrastructure
Job details
About this role
Role overview Build and operate the backend infrastructure that supports AI and agent-facing developer tools. The work spans service architecture, reliability, security, and production operations, with ownership from deployment through on-call and incident follow-up.
Responsibilities - Deploy, scale, configure, and release production services, including an MCP server and other AI tooling backends. - Set reliability targets with infrastructure partners; monitor service health, error budgets, and capacity. - Take part in on-call, investigate incidents, coordinate fixes, and write runbooks and follow-up actions. - Design authentication and authorization for agent and machine clients, including OAuth applications, scoped tokens, and safe permission changes. - Build observability through metrics, traces, logs, dashboards, and alerts; manage rate limits and service behavior during overload or dependency failures. - Improve service boundaries and contribute code where it strengthens reliability or security, working with platform, operations, and product engineers.
Requirements - At least five years building and operating production backend services, including on-call responsibility. - Strong TypeScript or Go skills, with the ability to work comfortably in the other language. - Experience designing APIs for real users, including versioning, error handling, rate limits, and backward-compatible changes. - Practical knowledge of OAuth, OIDC, JWT, API authorization, PostgreSQL, and relational databases. - Familiarity with CI/CD, Docker, container deployments, and infrastructure as code. - Ability to debug across services using telemetry, communicate clearly in writing, and work through ambiguity in distributed teams. - Deep experience in at least one area: API authorization, production operations and reliability, or gateways and distributed systems.
Nice to have Experience with agent tooling or AI client traffic; extracting services from larger codebases; observability platforms and SLOs; or open-source work in relevant languages and API tooling.
Benefits and work setup Fully remote, asynchronous work with a coworking allowance, equity, a technology budget, health coverage, annual team gatherings, and a yearly learning allowance.
