Role overview This is a remote IT Automation Engineer role on a Business Technology team, focused on converting manual, repetitive IT work into reliable, well-documented automation. The position blends hands-on administration of identity, endpoint, and collaboration platforms with script and workflow engineering, partnering closely with service desk, infrastructure, and security counterparts.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and maintain automation scripts and workflows in PowerShell, Python, or Bash to streamline IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration. - Build automated workflows across user, device, and identity lifecycles using identity and endpoint platforms (e.g., Okta, Entra ID, Intune, Jamf) plus API and webhook integrations. - Instrument automations with logging and alerting so actions are auditable, and track measurable outcomes such as hours saved and errors reduced. - Administer and support end-user, identity, and collaboration platforms including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams, resolving Windows and macOS issues end-to-end. - Maintain runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and an automation knowledge base so solutions remain supportable and repeatable. - Use AI tools to accelerate scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation, validating outputs in non-production before applying them to live systems.
Requirements - 2+ years in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a related technical role, with hands-on experience writing and maintaining automation scripts. - Hands-on experience administering enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms such as Active Directory, Entra ID, Okta, and Microsoft 365. - Experience adapting or troubleshooting existing automation to resolve moderately complex, ambiguous technical problems. - Practical use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude) and AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot), with a portfolio, repository, or project example. - Located in the U.S. Central or Mountain time zone with hours aligned accordingly; willingness to participate in an on-call rotation. - Strong written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Nice to have - Experience mentoring service desk teammates on scripting fundamentals.
