Staff Software Engineer - Web

Role overview Guide the architecture and technical direction of web applications and services that support customer accounts, commerce, licensing, entitlements, and related experiences. This is a hands-on staff-level engineering role combining system design and delivery with mentorship, cross-functional collaboration, and improvements to engineering practices.

Responsibilities - Steward the architecture and long-term health of production web systems. - Identify and lead high-impact work that improves customer-facing products, reliability, and engineering effectiveness. - Make pragmatic technical decisions that balance customer value, scalability, maintainability, security, and delivery speed. - Model effective use of AI-assisted development and code review, with appropriate quality checks and accountability. - Mentor engineers, spread technical ownership, and strengthen the team's capabilities. - Partner across engineering specialties, product, and other teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences.

Requirements - Significant experience shaping architecture and technical direction for production systems. - Strong backend, distributed-systems, and modern web application fundamentals. - Hands-on approach to engineering and extensive use of AI tools, paired with critical evaluation of their output. - Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly and assess tradeoffs without relying on a single language or framework. - Sound judgment across delivery speed, maintainability, security, and long-term system health. - Collaborative technical leadership demonstrated through trusted decisions, execution, and support for other engineers.

Nice to have - Familiarity with live-production workflows, such as broadcasting, worship services, sports, or events. - Experience with PHP/Laravel, React, TypeScript, MySQL, Redis, AWS, Cloudflare, or comparable technologies. - Background in commerce, billing, identity, licensing, entitlements, or APIs for desktop applications. - Experience modernizing mature systems or improving developer workflows and AI-assisted engineering practices.
