Role overview This remote Principal Engineer role leads the design and evolution of modern IT Operations platforms, bridging engineering and operations to deliver unified platform health, performance, and reliability. Reporting to the Director of Platform Engineering, the position serves as the senior technical authority for observability, incident, and event management across the enterprise.
Responsibilities - Lead the design of cohesive IT Operations ecosystems that combine observability, event management, and service management capabilities. - Define enterprise patterns for Dynatrace, ServiceNow, and Stonebranch, ensuring consistent adoption across teams. - Integrate operational tooling to deliver end-to-end visibility, correlation, and actionable insight across services and user journeys. - Embed observability and operational requirements into platform and application design, shifting operations left in the delivery lifecycle. - Design intelligent alerting and event management strategies that reduce noise and improve signal quality. - Evolve incident, problem, and change practices through automation and ServiceNow workflows and integrations. - Champion automation and self-healing capabilities to enable proactive and predictive operations. - Collaborate across engineering, SRE, and operations teams to align on reliability targets and operational standards. - Mentor engineers and operational teams in modern observability, reliability engineering, and operational excellence.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. - 10+ years of IT experience with at least 5 years in operations or platform engineering, including hands-on work in monitoring, application development, and performance tuning. - 10+ years mentoring and coaching technical teams, including conflict resolution and cross-team collaboration. - 10+ years presenting complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, both verbally and in writing. - 10+ years of experience in road mapping, blueprinting, and risk assessment, leveraging emerging technologies.
Nice to have - Technical certifications in areas such as Application Development, Network/Cisco, Linux, or Windows.
