Role overview The Senior Engineering Manager will lead a Control Planes & Ecosystem Group for a cloud-native infrastructure platform that maintains a widely adopted open-source framework for building programmable cloud control planes. This senior leadership role owns the strategy and execution for the customer-facing control plane experience across an upstream open-source project, an enterprise distribution, a marketplace, official providers and extensions, and third-party partner integrations. The position is responsible for scaling teams, defining long-term architecture strategy, and shaping how enterprises adopt programmable control planes through a thriving ecosystem, partnering closely with product, go-to-market, alliances, and customer success functions.
Responsibilities - Define and drive the long-term vision for hosted control planes, marketplace, APIs, and extensibility frameworks so they operate as a cohesive product experience - Own strategy for the ecosystem marketplace as the distribution layer for providers, extensions, and control plane building blocks - Grow and strengthen the provider ecosystem across ISVs, cloud providers, and platform partners, and enable extension frameworks for customers and partners - Lead managers and managers-of-managers across multiple engineering teams, scaling organizational structure to support product velocity and ecosystem expansion - Establish operational rigor including roadmap planning, delivery predictability, uptime SLAs, and production excellence - Translate enterprise customer needs into scalable control plane capabilities and represent engineering in executive-level conversations about ecosystem expansion and AI-native infrastructure
Requirements - 10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leading managers of managers - 5+ years building or scaling cloud-native, infrastructure, or platform engineering products - Deep familiarity with Kubernetes and the broader cloud native ecosystem - Experience building SaaS control planes or distributed systems at scale - Strong understanding of APIs, SDKs, declarative systems, and extensibility frameworks - Proven track record growing ecosystem-driven products such as marketplaces, providers, plugins, or integrations, and delivering reliable production services with strong uptime standards
Nice to have - Hands-on experience with the open-source cloud-native control plane project and Kubernetes - Background in platform engineering or internal developer platforms - Experience building multi-tenant control plane architectures - Startup experience in high-growth infrastructure companies - Passion for programmable infrastructure and AI-native systems
