About this role
Role overview A fully remote, single-contributor position focused on running the day-to-day technology stack for a small, distributed engineering team that builds autonomy software for real-world, high-stakes environments. The role is split roughly evenly between corporate IT on Microsoft 365 and cloud administration on AWS, with a security and compliance remit that touches CMMC, NIST 800-171, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). It reports to leadership and is intended to grow into an IT and Security Lead role as the organization scales.
Responsibilities - Serve as the first point of contact for employee IT needs, troubleshooting hardware, software, access, and connectivity issues across a distributed workforce. - Administer Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive, including licenses, groups, conditional access, and a least-privilege SharePoint permission structure. - Partner with engineering and DevSecOps to administer AWS identity, access, governance, and cloud spend, and to deliver secure, well-documented cloud resources. - Manage Windows, macOS, and Linux endpoints through enrollment, compliance policies, configuration baselines, asset inventory, and device lifecycle. - Support security operations including vulnerability management, endpoint protection, privileged access, incident response, and security awareness training. - Assist with compliance efforts by gathering evidence, maintaining documentation, supporting audits, and translating CMMC and NIST 800-171 controls into practical technical safeguards.
Requirements - 5+ years of hands-on IT administration or systems support experience, ideally in a small company or startup. - Direct experience administering Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune. - Working knowledge of AWS, including IAM, AWS Organizations, EC2, and S3. - Hands-on exposure to security fundamentals such as identity and access management, endpoint protection, and incident response. - Experience supporting remote or distributed teams and administering a portfolio of SaaS tools, licensing, and access. - U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance, and familiarity with CMMC and NIST 800-171.
Nice to have - Background in the defense industry or experience supporting a formal compliance effort. - Comfort working independently, strong documentation habits, and clear communication with both non-technical colleagues and engineers.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote position with a multi-stage, scenario-based interview process designed to be low-stress, with no trick questions or brain teasers. - Single-contributor role reporting directly to leadership, with a defined growth path to IT and Security Lead.
