Job details
About this role
Role overview Help turn emerging machine-learning research into open-source systems and a coherent experience for researchers using a training platform. The role combines applied research, software engineering, and product work, with a focus on useful abstractions, stable interfaces, and enabling external contributors to build and share research.
Responsibilities - Develop open-source systems for reinforcement learning, environments, evaluation, and agents. - Shape researcher-facing platform features in close collaboration with engineering and design. - Decide which experimental abstractions are ready to become stable public interfaces. - Build APIs, examples, reference implementations, and technical explanations that make systems usable and inspectable. - Work with research users and external contributors to improve interfaces and help ship environments, harnesses, algorithms, and integrations. - Make it practical for researchers to move from an environment idea to a credible evaluation and training run while keeping experimental choices visible.
Requirements - Experience owning open-source machine-learning or developer-tool systems, research engineering, technical product work, or code-centered research communities. - Hands-on experience building and debugging model-training, post-training, agent, evaluation, or related experimental workflows. - Strong experimental judgment: establish meaningful baselines, inspect traces, attribute failures, and adapt when evidence changes. - Strong Python skills and the ability to create artifacts other researchers and engineers can run, inspect, and extend. - Comfort taking ownership of ambiguous work and keeping partners and teammates informed. - Evidence of strong work through publications, open-source systems, benchmarks, or shipped products.
Benefits and work setup - Full-time role with flexible work location, including remote work or offices in San Francisco, New York, and London. - Listed cash compensation range of $150,000–$300,000, plus equity incentives. - Visa sponsorship and relocation support, professional development budget, and team off-sites and conference attendance.
