Role overview A virtual medical practice focused on women's and children's health is hiring a senior data scientist to lead health economics work. The role owns how clinical and economic outcomes are measured, validated, and communicated to payer partners and the broader research community, shaping value-based and risk-based offerings through rigorous program evaluation.
Responsibilities - Translate broad, ambiguous mandates into clear analytical questions, definitions, and assumptions, aligning diverse stakeholders on the right approach - Design and execute scalable, repeatable analyses that assess program outcomes, extending or building new methods when existing ones fall short - Serve as the technical face of the analytics function to external partners, presenting methodology, aligning on parameters, and building credibility with evaluation teams - Drive the end-to-end evidence strategy, including partner-facing reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications - Build data tables, pipelines, and dashboards that integrate varied health data sources and surface insights for cross-functional teams - Identify opportunities to automate and scale insight generation in collaboration with data and analytics engineering - Define statistical and health-economics methodologies used across the organization, mentor other data scientists, and guide technical investment
Requirements - 6+ years of professional experience building statistical models for complex healthcare questions, using techniques such as propensity score matching, regression, clustering, difference-in-differences, and decision trees - Hands-on experience with cost-of-care or clinical outcomes target setting at a payer, managed care organization, integrated delivery network, value-based care provider, or healthcare consulting firm - Track record of presenting statistical analyses to external stakeholders with mixed technical backgrounds - Proficiency in Python or R, plus strong SQL skills - Demonstrated ability to thrive under ambiguity, recommend an analytical path, and explain the rationale - Excellent written and verbal communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
Nice to have - Formal training in statistics, econometrics, or actuarial science - Experience with risk-based or value-based contracting, including opportunity sizing and ROI modeling - Familiarity with medical claims data - Peer-reviewed publications in health outcomes or health economics - Experience with data dashboarding or visualization tools
