Role overview
This senior technical leadership role drives pricing sophistication and profitability for a personal lines insurance portfolio, blending predictive modeling, conversion and retention forecasting, and traditional actuarial ratemaking. The position owns complex rating strategy end-to-end, sets modeling standards for the actuarial team, and presents recommendations directly to senior leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of price elasticity curves and lifetime value models that forecast how rating changes affect policyholder retention and conversion - Own portfolio retention and conversion forecasting tied to pricing actions, operational changes, and business initiatives - Advance GLM-based risk segmentation and architect rating-factor models in R or Python, championing modern predictive modeling techniques - Build and maintain performance-monitoring tools tracking loss ratio, conversion, churn, and lifetime value across rating plans over time - Quantify pricing impact of new product and coverage proposals, lead rate filings, and respond to regulatory objections - Partner with product, underwriting, marketing, BI, and IT teams, translating complex actuarial concepts for non-technical audiences
Requirements
- FCAS designation required, or ACAS with clear progress toward fellowship - 7+ years of experience in P&C and/or health insurance actuarial or data science roles - 4+ years of experience in actuarial ratemaking or pricing modeling - Advanced SQL skills plus strong proficiency in R and/or Python - Advanced knowledge of generalized linear models (GLMs) - Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with demonstrated cross-functional influence
