Staff Data Scientist

Role overview A senior individual contributor role for an experienced data scientist to lead the most strategically important and commercially complex analytical work at a fast-scaling digital bank. The position blends deep hands-on technical execution with senior stakeholder influence, shaping measurement, experimentation, and decision science across a major domain. It suits someone who combines strong commercial judgement with rigorous data science craft.

Responsibilities - Shape and lead the data strategy for a large domain, aligning customer and commercial priorities with a portfolio of high-impact analytical work - Identify, frame, and steer ambiguous, business-critical problems that span teams and involve meaningful trade-offs - Act as a trusted technical partner to senior leaders across product, engineering, machine learning, design, research, risk, and operations - Define metric maps and measurement strategies that connect customer behaviour, product changes, and business outcomes - Set and evolve standards for experimentation, causal inference, forecasting, and optimisation, matching methodology to decision risk - Stay hands-on with SQL and Python to explore complex datasets, design analyses, build prototypes, and resolve the hardest technical questions - Coach colleagues and raise the analytical bar through reusable approaches, governance, and reproducibility practices

Requirements - Significant experience operating as a senior or staff-level data scientist on business-critical problems - Strong hands-on proficiency with SQL and Python for analysis, modelling, and prototyping - Deep expertise in experimentation, causal inference, and at least one of forecasting, optimisation, or decision science - Track record of partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing strategy through an independent technical perspective - Ability to communicate complex ideas, assumptions, and risks clearly to varied audiences - Experience stewarding critical data products or initiatives end-to-end

Nice to have - Background working across multiple product or business domains such as growth, payments, lending, risk, or wealth - Familiarity with self-serve analytics environments and empowering non-specialists with data
