About this role

Role overview Join a growing FinTech team building next-generation cash flow management software used by thousands of small and medium-sized businesses across North America. As an Intermediate Backend Engineer, you will design and ship scalable, cloud-native services and integrations that help finance teams automate payments and improve liquidity. This is a full-time role open to candidates in Ontario, British Columbia, and Nova Scotia, with contract arrangements available for applicants located elsewhere in Canada.

Responsibilities - Partner with Product, Design, and engineering peers to deliver scalable services using .NET and cloud-native technologies such as Azure, Kubernetes, and serverless compute. - Design and implement APIs, integrations, and workflow systems that handle high-throughput, distributed workloads in production. - Translate complex architectural problems into simple, maintainable system designs and well-documented code. - Build event-driven services using streaming platforms like Kafka to support real-time insights and reliable integrations. - Champion an API-first mindset, ensuring components are consumed through clean interfaces and contract-driven development. - Share engineering knowledge through internal learning sessions and contribute to cross-functional planning to align technical output with business strategy.

Requirements - Three to six years of professional software engineering experience, ideally in a high-growth or scale-up environment. - Strong proficiency in a strongly typed language, with a preference for C# and the .NET ecosystem. - Hands-on experience designing and shipping RESTful APIs and service contracts. - Practical exposure to cloud-native development, including containers, orchestration, and managed services on Azure or AWS. - Familiarity with event streaming technologies such as Kafka or similar messaging systems. - Working knowledge of multiple database paradigms, including NoSQL, in-memory stores, and relational databases. - A computer science degree or equivalent practical experience, plus a track record of success in cross-functional teams.

Nice to have - Experience operating or maintaining high-throughput, highly available distributed systems in production. - Comfort moving between fast-paced delivery and incremental, iterative improvements. - A collaborative, ego-less approach and enthusiasm for mentoring peers.

Benefits and work setup - Remote-friendly employment with a preference for candidates based in Ontario, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia; contract arrangements considered for other Canadian provinces. - Opportunity to contribute to a product with strong market fit during a phase of significant customer growth. - Inclusive hiring practices with accommodations available throughout the recruitment process.
