Staff Software Engineer - Orders Platform

Role overview
Own and evolve a high reliability ordering platform used by restaurants to take, track, and settle orders, including when connectivity is interrupted. As a hands-on technical leader, you will shape the platform’s architecture and help it scale while keeping order data and money-related workflows correct across devices and services.
Responsibilities - Set technical direction for how orders are modeled, stored, replicated, and recovered. - Build and improve event-sourced, offline-first systems, including synchronization and conflict handling across restaurant devices. - Partner with payments, reporting, product, and point-of-sale and mobile teams to deliver end-to-end ordering flows. - Improve observability, event replay, and reconciliation so teams can find and resolve order-state issues efficiently. - Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and document platform behavior to spread knowledge across the team. - Work with restaurant operators to understand and address practical needs, including through direct communication or visits.
Requirements - Staff-level experience setting technical direction while remaining actively involved in implementation. - Hands-on experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or comparable replicated and offline-first systems. - Strong understanding of idempotency, optimistic concurrency, replay, projections, and reconciliation. - Ability to design for partial failures, such as a device or service disappearing mid-operation. - Skill in learning specialized technologies and improving system reliability. - Clear communication and the ability to make complex systems understandable to others.
Nice to have - Backend experience with payments or ordering systems, including money-related workflows. - Experience in restaurants, retail, or IT.
