Technical Project Manager, Science

Role overview This role drives the cross-functional research and development process behind new health-sensing capabilities within a wearable health technology company. The Technical Project Manager partners with Science, Hardware, Firmware, Software, and Product teams to keep complex R&D programs on track from planning through execution, with a slight preference for candidates based in San Francisco or San Diego.

Responsibilities - Own integrated R&D project plans including timelines, milestones, risks, dependencies, and decision paths for Science programs. - Translate scientific and sensing needs into clear requirements, interfaces, and escalation paths in partnership with technical leads. - Coordinate hand-offs across teams and negotiate realistic commitments against team capacity. - Apply working knowledge of algorithm development practices and hardware build-and-test cycles to surface readiness gaps across testing, validation, and readiness reviews. - Maintain ownership and change tracking for protocols, specifications, and readiness criteria within the program's scope. - Identify risks early, drive decisions to closure, and contribute to improvements in how Science runs projects.

Requirements - 4+ years leading scientific or technical projects with clear ownership of milestones, dependencies, risks, and cross-functional execution. - Experience managing projects in scientific, engineering, or product-validation environments; human-subjects research or wearable technology experience is strongly preferred. - Working knowledge of algorithm development practices and hardware build-and-test cycles sufficient to spot readiness gaps. - Comfort negotiating timelines against real team capacity and pushing back constructively when needed. - Experience collaborating across international, distributed teams, including flexibility to overlap with European colleagues. - Strong documentation habits, including decision logs, risk registers, and readiness trackers. - Technical degree or equivalent experience demonstrating fluency in a scientific or engineering environment.
