Full-Stack Engineer (TypeScript - Prototyping)
Job details
About this role
Role overview An Innovation team is hiring a full-stack engineer to build validated prototypes that go beyond throwaway demos. The engineer ships thin vertical slices end-to-end across UI, APIs, and data integrations, then packages them so a delivery team can confidently productize the result. The platform is a Kubernetes-based data intelligence system delivered as SaaS, self-hosted, on-prem, or air-gapped for defense, law-enforcement, and enterprise customers.
Responsibilities - Prototype thin vertical slices spanning React/Next.js UI, Node.js APIs, and supporting storage or search integrations. - Collaborate with Product Management and Design in time-boxed discovery cycles, iterating quickly and demoing often to validate assumptions. - Align prototypes with shared primitives, including feature flags, auth flows, auditability, multitenancy assumptions, and basic observability. - Integrate workflows that touch streaming and orchestration (Kafka/Temporal) and partner with Data/ML engineers when needed. - Ship an adoption package: documentation, interfaces, schemas, and an integration backlog that reduces handoff friction.
Requirements - 3+ years building production web applications and APIs in TypeScript using React/Next.js and Node. - Strong product-engineering instincts, with the ability to turn ambiguity into a tight one-to-three-week prototype scope. - Practical API and data-layer skills (PostgreSQL; comfortable integrating search when needed). - Comfort working in Kubernetes/GitOps environments and maintaining strong engineering hygiene (tests, CI, docs). - Security-conscious approach where access control, privacy/PII handling, and audit expectations are treated as part of "done." - Eligibility to work in Germany; EU/NATO citizenship preferred for export-controlled projects.
Nice to have - Real-time UI experience (WebSockets/WebRTC, collaborative editing, CRDT/OT). - Complex visualization experience (graph/geospatial UX; Cytoscape, D3, Mapbox, or Cesium). - Some Python comfort for quick data or ML integration work. - German at B1+ or experience with regulated or mission-critical systems.
Benefits and work setup - Modern stack: TypeScript/Next.js/React, Node, Kafka/Temporal, Postgres/OpenSearch, Kubernetes. - Remote-first in Germany with regular prototyping sprints in Berlin, 30 days of vacation, and equipment plus learning budgets. - High-impact work in which prototypes directly shape product across multiple delivery teams.
