Project Mechanical Engineer – Federal Engineering and Design

Role overview Lead mechanical engineering for federal, healthcare, and institutional facilities, including hospitals and military installations. The role spans design from early planning through construction, with technical leadership, project coordination, and guidance for junior engineers.

Responsibilities - Direct HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas system design for federal facilities. - Prepare engineering documents, design calculations, and cost estimates. - Check designs against applicable federal and industry standards, including VA criteria, UFC, IBC, ASHRAE, and NFPA. - Coordinate system design with architects, other engineering disciplines, and government stakeholders. - Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, design reviews, and quality control. - Contribute to client meetings, site visits, proposals, and federal RFP responses; support junior engineers.

Requirements - Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering. - Active PE license. - At least six years of mechanical design experience; VA, defense, or healthcare facility work is especially relevant. - Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design software. - Familiarity with VA standards, federal project delivery, and commissioning. - Strong communication and team coordination skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
