Role overview A Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer position focused on supporting the development, licensing, deployment, and operation of an advanced fast reactor design. The role involves conducting quantitative risk analyses and working closely with design teams to translate risk insights into safety and reliability improvements across the reactor lifecycle.
Responsibilities - Build and maintain probabilistic risk analysis models for advanced reactor systems - Identify initiating events using hazard analysis methods such as FMEAs and similar techniques - Develop event trees, fault trees, and quantify event sequence probabilities and consequences - Partner with engineering design teams to feed risk insights back into design decisions and improve reliability - Evaluate external hazards using established PRA methodologies - Produce technical reports, analyses, and supporting documentation for licensing and regulatory submissions
Requirements - At least 5 years of relevant work experience - Bachelor's degree or higher in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a closely related discipline - Working familiarity with PRA techniques and quantitative risk methods - Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Nice to have - Advanced training, education, or experience specifically in PRA - Background delivering products for regulatory review, including DOE authorization or NRC licensing under 10 CFR Parts 50 or 52 - Hands-on experience with PRA software such as CAFTA, SAPHIRE, ADAPT, or RAVEN - Experience with fast reactor design and analysis - Familiarity with hazard analysis approaches including FMEAs, HAZOPs, and What-if Analysis - Exposure to transient or source term analysis - Experience with human reliability analysis - Operations, maintenance, or engineering support background at functioning nuclear power plants
