Senior Software Engineer (PHP)

Role overview A senior full-stack engineer is needed to help evolve an automated fee-analysis and proposal platform that ingests merchant processing statements in many formats, classifies charges, computes potential savings, and produces signable proposals in seconds. The work spans the full software development lifecycle — from planning and design through implementation, testing, and deployment — inside a cross-functional agile team with product and engineering peers. It is well suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys genuinely hard problems and operates with a high degree of autonomy on a large, established codebase.

Responsibilities - Design, build, and enhance features in a PHP/Laravel and Vue application that powers the fee-analysis and proposal product - Develop efficient database queries and optimize MySQL performance where needed - Own quality end-to-end through developer-led testing, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, validating changes through to production - Refactor complex, high-complexity areas of a large codebase into maintainable, well-structured components - Document critical business logic, application workflows, and key architectural decisions - Partner with product managers to refine requirements and contribute to technical solution design, and collaborate with SRE on observability, resilience, and security

Requirements - Several years of professional experience building production web applications with PHP (Laravel) and a modern JavaScript front-end framework such as Vue - Strong SQL and MySQL skills, including query optimization on sizable datasets - Solid grasp of testing practices, code review, and CI/CD fundamentals - Comfort working autonomously on complex, established systems and decomposing them into cleaner designs - Experience collaborating inside agile, cross-functional product teams

Nice to have - Familiarity with the Vue ecosystem (Quasar, Pinia, Vite) - Containerization experience with Docker and caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached - Hands-on use of AWS services including ECS, ECR, S3, and SQS - Exposure to logging and monitoring platforms like Sentry or New Relic - Understanding of cloud-native or multi-tenant SaaS architecture, including scalability and resilience - Exposure to Python or ML-adjacent services (Flask, Pandas, scikit-learn) or to integrating AI capabilities into applications - A track record of raising engineering standards through better test coverage, technical-debt reduction, or legacy modernization
