Senior Director, Product, Security and Privacy

Role overview

This role embeds an experienced attorney directly within product, engineering, security, and go-to-market teams at a global enterprise software organization. The core mission is to ensure that products spanning cloud, on-premise, and hybrid deployments are designed, built, and launched in compliance with applicable laws and aligned with the organization's risk posture. The position covers legal guidance across the full product lifecycle, from roadmap planning through feature design, launch, and ongoing iteration in a fast-paced environment that includes open-source, AI, and data-intensive offerings.

Responsibilities

- Act as the primary legal partner for product and engineering teams, advising on feature design, APIs, integrations, data flows, and platform architecture across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid products. - Counsel teams on open-source software usage, contributions, and licensing models such as GPL, AGPL, Apache, MIT, and dual licensing, and collaborate with engineering and security on OSS governance and tooling. - Provide guidance on global privacy and data protection matters, including GDPR, CCPA, and cross-border data transfer frameworks, and advise on privacy and security controls embedded in product features. - Support product-led go-to-market initiatives and help build scalable legal frameworks that enable both enterprise sales and self-serve cloud motions. - Monitor emerging laws affecting enterprise software, AI, data, and cloud services, translate them into practical guidance, and contribute to internal policies, guidelines, and playbooks. - Partner with Security, Trust, and Compliance teams on incident response, customer security inquiries, and audits, while serving as a trusted advisor to senior product and engineering leaders.

Requirements

- JD or equivalent law degree, with an active license in good standing in at least one jurisdiction. - At least 10 years of relevant legal experience, with substantial focus on product, technology, or commercial matters. - Background supporting enterprise software, cloud services, or developer-focused products. - Working knowledge of software licensing, SaaS models, open-source licensing concepts, and privacy and data protection frameworks. - Ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

- In-house experience at a B2B SaaS or open-source company. - Familiarity with database technologies, developer platforms, or infrastructure software. - Experience with AI/ML, data platforms, or regulated enterprise customers. - Comfort working in a fast-paced, globally distributed organization.
