Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Role overview A senior software engineering role supporting government technology modernization programs that move legacy public services onto secure, reliable cloud platforms. The position leads significant migration efforts, mentors other engineers, and partners with government stakeholders and contractors to design and improve large-scale systems. It combines hands-on Java backend work with technical leadership, documentation, and business development contributions.

Responsibilities - Write and review production code, technical specifications, and architecture artifacts, and perform code reviews across the team. - Work closely with cross-functional product teams to identify and mitigate technical risks and balance technical debt against project milestones. - Guide the engineering team on planning, estimation, prioritization, and trade-offs, and review architecture and designs from other project teams. - Design technical roadmaps, propose and enforce technical architecture, and maintain production systems including on-call duties and systematic debugging. - Support business development by contributing to bids, attending client stakeholder meetings, strategizing with leadership on growth, and reviewing strategy plans for new work. - Collaborate with government stakeholders to build alignment on technical initiatives and partner with other contractors on shared systems.

Requirements - At least 10 years of experience working in agile, multidisciplinary team environments, preferably designing and building medium to large-scale systems on cloud platforms. - Production experience designing and implementing cloud-native microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and containerized deployment patterns. - Hands-on experience with relational databases, preferably Postgres, using JDBC and ORM mappers such as Hibernate. - DevOps experience, preferably with Jenkins CI/CD pipelines. - Experience using AWS cloud native services and data engineering patterns. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including prior experience working directly with stakeholders. - Tenacity to iterate on working code, strategic thinking around trade-offs, and an adaptive, empathetic, collaborative mindset. - Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship, with ability to meet government contract requirements.
