Senior Data Center Technician – Fiber (Remote)

Role overview A travel-heavy, field-based position supporting the physical layer of data center environments across enterprise, colocation, hyperscale, and AI/HPC sites. The role focuses on hands-on installation, remediation, and smart-hands support, working from detailed runbooks, cable schedules, and rack drawings. Candidates must be US-based and able to travel 100% of the time.

Responsibilities - Install, route, terminate, label, and test fiber-optic and copper cabling according to project standards. - Rack-and-stack servers, switches, storage, patch panels, optics, and supporting hardware in standard, high-density, and AI-compute cabinets. - Verify source/destination, port mapping, connector type, bend radius, and slack; remediate defects and rework cabling. - Provide smart-hands assistance to remote engineers, including hardware swaps, optics replacement, and connection changes. - Capture serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photos, and installation records; update trackers and redline documentation. - Maintain clean cabinets, pathways, and staging areas, and communicate professionally with leads, superintendents, customers, and subcontractors.

Requirements - Two or more years of experience in data center operations, telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, or network deployment. - Hands-on experience installing copper and fiber-optic cabling and mounting equipment in data cabinets. - Ability to read cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, and basic drawings, and to follow runbooks independently. - Strong attention to detail, workmanship, documentation, and safety. - Valid driver's license and ability to meet travel, background, drug, and site-access screening requirements. - Comfort working as part of a traveling field team across fast-paced customer environments.
