Senior Data Center Technician – Copper (Remote)

Role overview

This position places an experienced infrastructure technician in a field-based, traveling role focused on the physical build-out and upkeep of modern data center environments. Work spans enterprise, colocation, hyperscale, AI/HPC, construction, and operational sites, with a heavy emphasis on copper cabling, structured cabling, rack-and-stack, and smart-hands support. Candidates must live in the United States and be ready for a remote role that requires 100% travel.

Responsibilities

- Install, route, dress, label, terminate, test, and troubleshoot copper and fiber-optic cabling, verifying ports, connectors, slack, bend radius, and labeling accuracy. - Perform rack-and-stack work in standard, high-density, and AI-compute cabinets, mounting servers, switches, storage, patch panels, cable managers, optics, and power components. - Execute cabling remediation, cleanup, defect correction, and rework following cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, drawings, and runbooks. - Act as smart-hands support for remote engineers, replacing damaged cables, labels, transceivers, optics, and field-replaceable hardware. - Document each installation by capturing serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, issue notes, and closeout evidence in project trackers and checklists. - Maintain clean cabinets, pathways, staging areas, and project zones, and communicate professionally with leads, superintendents, customers, and subcontractors.

Requirements

- Two or more years of hands-on experience in data center operations, telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, or network deployment. - Demonstrated skill installing copper cabling, with additional fiber-optic experience preferred. - Proven ability to mount and install equipment in data cabinets and follow detailed technical instructions, cable schedules, drawings, and runbooks. - Ability to read cable labels, rack elevations, port maps, and basic drawings with strong attention to workmanship, documentation, and safety. - Comfort working independently as part of a traveling field team, with a valid driver's license and the ability to meet travel, background, drug, safety, and site-access screening requirements. - Completion of ongoing security awareness training and compliance with internal policies, including escalation of identified risks.
