Role overview
A field-based infrastructure technician role delivering high-craftsmanship enterprise network and data center installations at customer locations across North America. The position centers on rack integration, structured cabling, wireless access point deployment, equipment testing, documentation, and customer-facing support. New hires complete a hands-on certification program during the first 30 days before being authorized to work independently on customer engagements.
Responsibilities
- Install, mount, replace, relocate, and decommission enterprise networking gear including switches, routers, firewalls, servers, storage arrays, rack PDUs, and UPS units in cabinets and equipment racks - Pull, route, terminate, and test copper (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and single-mode or multimode fiber cabling, maintaining proper bend radius, separation, and pathway standards - Integrate equipment into racks and cabinets, dressing cabling to precise organizational standards and validating rack layouts against approved engineering documentation - Install and replace enterprise wireless access points, verifying placement, orientation, and mounting while assisting with post-installation wireless validation - Read and interpret floor plans, rack elevations, cable schedules, and installation drawings to confirm correct equipment placement and serviceability - Maintain accurate project documentation and deliver professional, customer-facing support on every job site, leaving each location cleaner and better organized than it was found
Requirements
- Hands-on experience installing enterprise network, data center, or IT infrastructure in commercial environments - Working knowledge of structured copper and fiber-optic cabling, including termination, splicing, and testing practices - Familiarity mounting enterprise wireless access points and a basic understanding of enterprise networking hardware - Ability to read floor plans, rack elevations, cable schedules, and installation drawings - Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, ladders, and lifts, plus the ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work on active customer job sites - Current BICSI Installer or Technician certification and OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification - Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills with a high attention to detail - Must be based in the United States and willing to travel extensively, including overnight stays and scheduled after-hours maintenance windows
Nice to have
- Experience using Fluke cable certification equipment - Background installing equipment from Cisco, Juniper, HPE Aruba, Palo Alto Networks, Dell, HPE, or similar enterprise vendors - Prior work inside enterprise data centers, colocation facilities, warehouses, or large-scale technology deployment environments
