Role overview A leading digital media and entertainment organization is launching large-scale mobile competitions featuring live elimination brackets with major prize pools, and is hiring a senior engineer to safeguard the integrity of those experiences. The role focuses on protecting games, players, tournaments, prize economies, and supporting infrastructure from cheating, fraud, abuse, and exploitation in environments where adversaries have real financial stakes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement protections across mobile clients, backend services, APIs, and real-time telemetry pipelines used by competitive gameplay and tournament systems. - Build automated detection, monitoring, and response capabilities that operate reliably at very large player counts and high event throughput. - Partner with gameplay, platform, mobile, data, fraud, and security teams to establish the integrity foundation for prize-bearing competitions. - Conduct hands-on security assessments of mobile applications, including app hardening, attestation, and root or jailbreak detection. - Investigate emerging cheating techniques, reverse-engineer malicious tooling, and adapt defenses as adversaries evolve. - Evaluate server-authoritative architectures, authentication and authorization flows, and applied cryptography to harden tournament and leaderboard systems.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience in game security, application security, anti-cheat engineering, fraud prevention, or mobile security. - Strong software development skills in Python or TypeScript, with a track record of backend services, detection tooling, or automation. - Deep knowledge of API security, authentication and authorization patterns, session management, and applied cryptography. - Hands-on experience securing iOS or Android platforms, including app hardening, attestation, and reverse engineering. - Familiarity with server-authoritative game design and the common cheating and abuse techniques that target competitive systems. - Working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and distributed, real-time architectures.
Nice to have
- Mobile instrumentation and reverse-engineering tooling experience with frameworks such as Frida, objection, Ghidra, jadx, or Hopper, plus mobile RASP or hardening products. - Background securing tournaments, leaderboards, sweepstakes, skill gaming, or real-money competitions, including regulatory dimensions like geo-eligibility, age gating, and KYC. - Knowledge of payment fraud, chargebacks, virtual currencies, or marketplace abuse patterns. - Experience with SIEM platforms, streaming telemetry pipelines, large-scale behavioral analytics, and applying statistics or machine learning to anomaly detection. - Familiarity with assessing WebSocket or UDP real-time protocols under adversarial conditions. - A public security research, bug bounty, CTF, conference, or open-source track record.
