Remote job
Contract Senior Software Engineer - WebGPU-Firefox/Gecko (Rust)
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This contract position supports a WebGPU browser implementation team by clearing a backlog of correctness and security bugs ahead of a multi-platform release. The engineer will work directly on wgpu and the Gecko engine, landing fixes upstream in open-source repositories so that WebGPU can ride the trains on Linux and Android.
Responsibilities
- Resolve prioritized correctness and validation bugs from the team's WebGPU issue tracker, including work targeted at CTS burndown, Linux release, and Android release columns, plus security and fuzzer-reported bugs. - Diagnose and unblock real-world apps and demos that fail to run on the nightly browser build, working from a meta-bug that lists application blockers. - Drive down conformance test suite (CTS) failures by reproducing issues, writing tests, and validating fixes against expected-failure lists. - Write code, tests, and review-friendly patches that can be merged upstream by wgpu maintainers and Gecko module owners. - Coordinate task selection and priority with the WebGPU team to ensure effort aligns with release-blocking goals.
Requirements
- Strong proficiency in Rust, with experience navigating a large systems or graphics codebase and ramping quickly on wgpu. - Demonstrated comfort contributing upstream in an open-source project, including working in public issue trackers and code review. - Solid debugging skills for validation bugs, edge cases, and findings from fuzzers.
Nice to have
- Prior contributions to the wgpu project. - Background in WebGPU, GPU programming, or modern graphics APIs such as Vulkan, DirectX 11/12, or Metal, plus shader languages like WGSL, HLSL, MSL, or SPIR-V. - Low-level Android graphics experience, or work in security, fuzzing, or the web security model.
