Senior Backend Developer

Role overview

A fully remote opportunity for an experienced backend engineer to architect and deliver scalable services and APIs that power enterprise applications. The work centers on microservices design, API craftsmanship, and database optimization within a modern cloud-based engineering environment.

Responsibilities

- Design, maintain, and enhance RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js, Python, or Java - Build and tune microservices architectures, including service-to-service communication patterns - Implement authentication and authorization flows (OAuth 2.0, JWT, SAML) and apply security hardening such as input validation and encryption - Model and optimize relational and NoSQL schemas (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis), including query tuning and indexing - Establish observability with logging, metrics, and tracing; build background job systems and data pipelines - Document APIs with OpenAPI/Swagger, write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and mentor teammates through code review

Requirements

- 5+ years of professional backend development experience - Expert proficiency in at least one of: Node.js (Express, NestJS), Python (FastAPI, Django), or Java (Spring Boot) - Strong grasp of HTTP, RESTful API design, and SQL databases with optimization techniques - Hands-on experience with NoSQL stores (MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch) and event-driven tooling (RabbitMQ, Kafka, Redis Pub/Sub) - Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible) - Working knowledge of performance/load testing, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, gRPC, and search or indexing systems
