Senior Engineer II, Proxy
Job details
About this role
Role overview Own and evolve a high-traffic ingress proxy that serves as a primary entry point to a security platform. The work spans performance, reliability, and secure handling of traffic from both people and AI agents, with responsibility for taking changes from design through production.
Responsibilities - Design, build, and operate proxy features that apply security controls to incoming traffic. - Improve latency and throughput in high-concurrency network services. - Modernize legacy components while keeping them in production, using staged traffic migration and safer architecture changes. - Make technical decisions about system design and language trade-offs, emphasizing long-term security and maintainability. - Validate behavior with integration tests, fuzzing, and property-based testing, including failure scenarios. - Work with teammates and partner groups to clarify customer needs, review changes, and share secure engineering practices.
Requirements - At least five years building and operating production systems. - Strong hands-on experience with Rust or Go; experience with both is useful. - Working knowledge of HTTP and TLS. - Experience building asynchronous services for high concurrency, including handling backpressure, cancellation, and non-blocking I/O failure modes. - Background in performance tuning and secure systems, including threat modeling, vulnerability reduction, and data integrity in distributed environments. - Ability to lead work through its full lifecycle, explain architectural choices, and assess AI-assisted code critically for correctness and fit.
Nice to have - Experience using profiling tools and concurrency techniques to optimize network applications. - Experience safely migrating traffic during legacy rewrites. - Familiarity with fuzzing and property-based testing.
