Senior Fullstack Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior fullstack engineer role at a profitable, hypergrowth startup preparing for an IPO, building a mortgage technology platform where real estate, business services, and consumer experience intersect. The position partners closely with founders and engineering leadership to ship features end to end across a mix of microservices and monolith architectures, with particular depth in backend systems and third-party integrations. The work sits inside a regulated, integration-heavy domain and leans heavily on AI-assisted engineering practices to raise team velocity.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain features spanning Rails API services, Node/TypeScript services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends - Own integrations with external loan origination systems, mortgage insurance providers, and document and e-sign vendors, including data mapping, sync and reconciliation, retries, and idempotency - Design and evolve asynchronous, multi-step workflows using message queues (such as RabbitMQ or SNS/SQS), background jobs, and saga-style orchestration - Keep a multi-tenant platform correct and secure, respecting partner boundaries in every query and event - Lead technical design for significant features by writing design docs and architecture decision records, weighing trade-offs, and building alignment before implementation - Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, and follow through on root-cause fixes that prevent recurrence, supported by observability and CI/CD tooling - Mentor engineers through pairing, code review, design feedback, and shared AI-assisted workflows, while building internal AI tooling such as agent instructions, reusable prompts, and connectors to internal systems
Requirements
- 7+ years building and running production web applications, taking problems from a vague description to a shipped, monitored solution - Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec - Comfort shipping polished UI with React and TypeScript, plus GraphQL (ideally Apollo) on server and client - Hands-on experience with distributed, event-driven systems, debugging cross-service failures using retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency - Track record taming third-party integrations, including slow, inconsistent, or poorly documented REST, SOAP, webhooks, and partner APIs - Advanced, daily use of AI and agentic coding tools, with the ability to structure context for agents and rigorously verify what they produce - Strong instincts for security, handling sensitive personal and financial data, and multi-tenant data isolation - Clear communication, including writing strong design docs, explaining incidents to non-engineers, and disagreeing productively with product partners
Nice to have
- Experience in mortgage technology or a similarly regulated, integration-heavy domain such as fintech, lending, insurance, payments, or healthcare - Familiarity with loan origination platforms like Encompass, MortgageBot, or Byte, or with MISMO standards - Background with Node.js/TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, and CI/CD pipelines - Saga or workflow orchestration patterns - A history of mentoring engineers and leading cross-team projects
Benefits and work setup
- Flexible, location-agnostic approach that lets you work from wherever you work best - Competitive benefits including PTO as needed, comprehensive insurance coverage, a 401(k) match, stock option grants, and a stock purchase plan - Ownership culture in which every team member has a stake in the company's outcome
