Principal Software Engineer

Role overview A Principal Software Engineer role on the Core Issuing and Processing team, which owns the always-on, real-time systems that authorize, clear, and settle every transaction on a payments platform. The position sets the technical roadmap, authors system designs, and drives high-impact initiatives across six domains: Onboarding, Issuing, Digital Wallets, Authorization and Clearing, Transaction Controls, and Ledger.

Responsibilities - Own the technical roadmap and author system designs that other engineers build from across the issuing and processing stack. - Spend significant time in the codebase, writing, reviewing, and optimizing code to move reliability, latency, and cost on core processing engines. - Partner with Product to translate requirements into designs spanning onboarding, issuing, digital wallets, authorization and clearing, transaction controls, and ledger. - Mentor technical leads, influence stakeholders, and define success metrics that raise the engineering bar across the organization. - Make hard-to-reverse technical calls on data model changes, consistency guarantees, failure and degradation strategy, and blast-radius containment.

Requirements - Deep experience designing distributed systems with strict consistency, idempotency, and concurrency controls under tight latency budgets. - Track record owning the technical roadmap for high-throughput, always-on money-movement or transaction processing systems. - Demonstrated ability to author system designs, write production code, and review work across a multi-service stack. - Experience partnering with Product and cross-functional engineering leaders on operational excellence initiatives. - Comfort making long-term, hard-to-reverse architectural decisions while balancing correctness, reliability, and cost.
