Java Senior Software Engineer

Role overview Lead development and testing of a distributed database designed to remain fast, available, and reliable across multiple nodes and deployment environments. You’ll guide engineers while working hands-on across replication, sharding, concurrency, storage, and recovery, collaborating with a geographically distributed team.

Responsibilities - Design and deliver database features with partner teams, balancing scalability, performance, and reliability. - Develop data structures and methods for storing data on disk and exchanging it across nodes. - Implement cluster availability, failure recovery, and data consistency mechanisms. - Diagnose complex issues across distributed clusters, including low-level data and concurrency behavior. - Profile and improve performance using JVM diagnostics and other suitable tools. - Guide engineers on the project and maintain clear, reviewable code through collaborative development.

Requirements - At least four years of Java programming experience and strong Java SE knowledge, including I/O and JVM internals. - Deep understanding of concurrency and the Java Memory Model, or comparable concurrency models. - Experience with SQL databases, strong SQL knowledge, and familiarity with concepts such as MVCC, ACID, and transaction isolation. - Background troubleshooting Java applications or databases, with strong debugging and problem-solving skills. - Leadership experience and ability to work effectively with a fast-moving, collaborative team. - Experience developing distributed software for on-premises and cloud environments.

Nice to have - Experience with NoSQL or distributed databases, high-load systems, and distributed algorithms. - Familiarity with containers, orchestration platforms, or public cloud environments. - Open-source contributions, automation, performance or load testing, or regular use of AI tools.
