Role overview
Build and guide the backend for a consumer financial app, with responsibility for the systems that handle payments, deposits, transfers, payouts, and reconciliation. This senior individual contributor role combines hands-on engineering with authority over API design, authentication, and the reliability and security of money movement.
Responsibilities - Design and operate backend services for financial transactions, making money movement accurate, observable, and resilient to retries or partial failures. - Define versioned mobile API contracts, including idempotency, consistent errors, pagination, and compatibility as the app evolves. - Own authentication and authorization services, including passkey support, session and token lifecycles, and enforcement at API boundaries. - Secure sensitive data and access against abuse through rate limits, anomaly detection, and careful handling of personal information and secrets. - Trace transaction flows across services, event streams, wallets, and on-chain settlement; identify and fix reliability gaps. - Set engineering patterns and documentation, and deliver through test-first development and thorough review.
Requirements - Production experience with systems that move money, such as payments, banking, lending, exchanges, or settlement; familiarity with idempotency, rounding, and reconciliation risks. - Experience owning mobile-facing APIs at scale, including versioning, compatibility, rate limiting, and error handling. - Experience with authentication and authorization systems such as OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, access scopes, or multi-factor authentication; passkey experience is useful. - Hands-on integration with financial providers and their webhooks, failure handling, and reconciliation processes. - Understanding of backend on-chain settlement concerns, including transaction nonces, gas, reorganizations, RPC failures, and confirmation depth. - Strong TypeScript skills, or a credible transition path from Go, Kotlin, Rust, or Java; production experience with Postgres, messaging or queues, and gRPC. - A test-first approach, including integration or behavior-driven testing with realistic dependencies.

Experience using coding agents and related development tools as part of an engineering workflow, with the judgment to validate their output.
