Senior Backend Application Engineer

Role overview A senior+ backend engineering position focused on designing and scaling resilient web services and ETL pipelines for a platform that analyzes risks across software and AI supply chains. The role sits within an early-stage, fast-paced environment where engineers own architecture end-to-end and help shape engineering culture alongside product and design counterparts.

Responsibilities - Architect and implement fault-tolerant web services and ETL pipelines that sustain tens of thousands of transactions per second. - Lead performance, reliability, and scalability improvements across distributed, data-intensive systems. - Build new platform capabilities used by security and engineering teams at large organizations. - Establish monitoring, testing, and deployment standards for mission-critical services. - Collaborate closely with product management, designers, and engineering peers, communicating technical decisions clearly across teams. - Contribute to recruiting and onboarding as the engineering organization grows.

Requirements - 8+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on web services and ETL systems. - Demonstrated success scaling high-volume, data-intensive production systems. - Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud architectures. - Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines. - Ability to ramp quickly on TypeScript, MongoDB, Go, or Python as needed. - Experience shipping commercial SaaS or on-prem products to external customers, ideally at an early-stage B2B startup. - Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have - Deep hands-on experience with MongoDB and complementary data stores. - Familiarity with AI/ML, large language models, or model tuning. - Background in information security, red teaming, or broader cybersecurity concepts. - Experience with software composition analysis, DAST, SAST, or other DevSecOps tooling.
