Role overview
A senior engineering role dedicated to building, enhancing, and supporting integration-driven solutions that connect applications, platforms, and services across complex, distributed environments. The position suits an experienced Java engineer who enjoys moving beyond individual features to design reliable integrations, untangle complex data and system interactions, and contribute across the full software development lifecycle. The work is fully remote and contractor-based, scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm PST.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable applications and integration services using Java and Spring Boot. - Build and support integrations between internal and external systems through APIs, web services, messaging, and integration frameworks. - Apply integration patterns such as routing, transformation, error handling, split/aggregate, and dynamic routing using Apache Camel or comparable tools. - Design and consume REST and SOAP APIs, working with JSON and XML payloads. - Develop and optimize data models, queries, and persistence solutions against relational and/or document databases. - Troubleshoot complex application and integration issues across distributed systems while contributing to engineering standards and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong, hands-on Java expertise. - Proficiency with Java 17+ and Spring Boot, plus solid grounding in backend architecture and distributed application concepts. - Demonstrated experience designing, building, and consuming REST APIs and web services. - Practical experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including data modeling and SQL. - Track record of working through the full software development lifecycle in production environments. - Strong debugging, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with advanced English communication and the ability to collaborate effectively in distributed, cross-functional teams.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Apache Camel or similar integration frameworks, including enterprise integration patterns. - Background integrating SaaS platforms, enterprise applications, or third-party services. - Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and with messaging or event-driven architectures. - Experience with front-end frameworks like Angular or React. - Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern software delivery practices. - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
