Staff Backend Engineer - Submission Processing (Europe)

Role overview A Staff Backend Engineer role on the Submission Processing team, fully remote within Europe. The position sits at the intersection of AI and backend engineering, focused on designing and scaling LLM-based systems that turn vast amounts of unstructured insurance data into reliable, decision-ready insights.

Responsibilities - Design and own the systems and architecture that process billions of unstructured data points per day - Make architectural calls under ambiguity and set technical direction for the submission processing function - Build and scale LLM-backed services used for high-stakes insurance decisions - Extract precise information from documents and other data sources, surfacing insights that underwriters rely on - Collaborate with a small, global engineering team to iterate quickly on unsolved industry problems

Requirements - Eight or more years of software engineering experience - Proven track record of taking ownership and driving projects to completion with minimal oversight - Strong fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem-solving - Production experience with LLMs and deploying them at scale - Proficiency in Python, with openness to strong object-oriented backgrounds - Hands-on experience with AWS serverless technologies such as Lambda and EC2, asynchronous workflows, and cloud environments - Comfort with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL

Nice to have - Experience with document pipelines and processing very large volumes of data
