Systems Engineer

Role overview Join an advanced nuclear energy engineering organization as a Systems Engineer focused on developing and integrating next-generation clean energy systems. This role applies disciplined systems engineering methods to translate program objectives and stakeholder needs into verifiable technical requirements, working across the full engineering lifecycle on a highly regulated, safety-critical product.

Responsibilities

- Develop, allocate, maintain, and trace technical requirements across multiple levels of product and plant architecture. - Translate program objectives, stakeholder needs, design inputs, and regulatory considerations into clear, complete, consistent, and verifiable requirements. - Perform functional analysis and decomposition to define required system behavior and establish traceability between functions, requirements, architecture, and verification activities. - Develop and maintain functional, logical, and physical system architectures; define and manage internal and external interfaces between systems, organizations, suppliers, and external partners. - Build verification strategies, methods, plans, acceptance criteria, and supporting evidence that demonstrate requirement satisfaction. - Coordinate multidisciplinary technical reviews, evaluate system-level impacts of proposed changes, and manage technical risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical, Nuclear, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field. - Relevant professional experience applying systems engineering methods to complex engineering programs or products. - Hands-on experience developing, allocating, maintaining, and tracing technical requirements, plus at least one of the following: functional analysis and decomposition, system architecture development, interface definition, system integration, requirements V&V, or change-impact assessment. - Experience coordinating technical reviews or leading cross-functional engineering activities. - Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

- Background in nuclear, power generation, aerospace, defense, energy, or another highly regulated industry. - Familiarity with requirements management tools (such as Jama Connect), model-based systems engineering methods, or nuclear quality, licensing, safety, and regulatory practices. - Experience supporting design reviews, trade studies, configuration management, or technical baseline management.

- Onsite role at the Alameda, CA headquarters; some travel may be required. - Occasional schedule flexibility or extended hours to support milestones, testing, or integration activities. - Typical California starting range of approximately $122,270 to $143,847, with actual compensation reflecting education, experience, skills, and market data. - Full-time benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid vacation, 401(k), and pre-tax FSA programs for health, dependent care, and commuter expenses. - Position is located in a facility subject to U.S. Department of Energy export control restrictions under 10 CFR Part 810; candidates must be authorized to access controlled information.
