Senior EDW Data Architect

Role overview

A long-term contract role for a hands-on Senior Enterprise Data Warehouse Architect who will shape and deliver large-scale EDW solutions within a banking environment. The position blends solution architecture, data governance, and stakeholder alignment with substantive technical work—roughly half of the time spent on SQL investigation, data analysis, and solution validation. It is a remote-first engagement based in the EU, with occasional on-site participation in client workshops.

Responsibilities

- Own end-to-end data architecture design for enterprise data warehouse delivery, including integration patterns and downstream consumption needs. - Analyse source systems, data flows, and business requirements to inform design decisions. - Perform hands-on Teradata SQL investigation, detailed technical analysis, and solution validation. - Collaborate with business stakeholders, domain teams, engineers, testers, delivery leads, and peer architects to resolve queries and align on direction. - Assess design alternatives and recommend pragmatic, scalable, standards-aligned solutions. - Produce and maintain architecture artefacts such as High Level Designs, Architecture Design Decisions, solution options, design rationale, assumptions, risks, and governance packs. - Present designs to Architecture Boards and governance forums to secure alignment and approval. - Embed data governance, metadata, lineage, controls, reconciliation, auditability, privacy, and regulatory compliance into solution design, including metadata-driven delivery frameworks. - Support delivery teams through build, testing, implementation, and issue resolution.

Requirements

- 8+ years in data engineering and architecture, including 5+ years in a Data Architect or senior Data Engineering Lead role with demonstrable architecture ownership. - Strong hands-on Teradata experience in an on-premises EDW environment: advanced SQL, data investigation, and technical validation. - Practical experience with the Teradata Financial Services Data Model or an equivalent financial services data model. - Solid understanding of EDW design, data marts, data integration patterns, and large-scale data platform delivery. - Background in banking, financial services, or regulated data environments. - Familiarity with regulatory data requirements such as BCBS 239, RDARR, regulatory reporting, traceability, auditability, and evidence-based control design. - Strong data analysis and modelling skills covering source analysis, relationship mapping, and structure definition. - Proven ability to produce governance-ready artefacts and present them to Architecture Boards, with strong stakeholder management and independent ownership.

Nice to have

- Exposure to the Teradata Global Control Framework (GCFR) or comparable control frameworks. - Experience with Cloudera or similar big data platforms, particularly integration with EDW or lake environments. - Familiarity with modern hybrid warehouse/lake architecture patterns. - Data observability, operational resilience, and production support experience. - Broader hands-on data engineering background.
