Lead Data Products Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior role within an Energy Products practice that develops analytical models and supporting technology for decarbonising energy markets. The Lead Data Products Engineer will stand up and lead a dedicated Data Products Team, partnering with subject matter experts to define, design, and evolve data products on a new internal Data and Processing Platform that underpins modelling processes, analytics outputs, and client-facing systems. The position blends data architecture, engineering leadership, and domain engagement across varied data sources ranging from small academic inputs to terabytes of long-horizon scenario projections.
Responsibilities
- Build a deep understanding of the data domain, including how key sources flow into modelling processes and how outputs feed analytics and client-facing systems. - Drive the design and development of foundational data products on the new Data Platform, partnering with the Platform team on capture and transformation processes. - Own specific domain data products and their supporting processes, taking responsibility for ongoing quality, adoption, reliability, and evolution. - Formalise data contracts, owning schemas, versioning strategy, data governance workflows, and backwards-compatible interfaces. - Provide technical leadership alongside the Product Owner, shaping design decisions and balancing commercial delivery against long-term strategic goals. - Drive engineering best practices so that quality, reliability, and observability are built in from inception. - Engage actively across all stages of the team's agile development approach, including discovery, delivery, and iteration.
Requirements
- Significant experience leading data engineering or data product work, ideally in a consulting, energy, or similarly complex domain environment. - Strong understanding of modern data platforms, ingestion pipelines, transformation tooling, and data modelling for analytics use cases. - Track record of owning data products end to end, including schemas, contracts, versioning, and governance. - Ability to partner with non-technical subject matter experts to translate modelling and analytics needs into well-designed data products. - Demonstrated engineering leadership, including mentoring, technical decision-making, and raising engineering quality bar. - Comfort working in a distributed, global team and engaging across multiple geographies.
Benefits and work setup
- Global consulting environment with colleagues across the UK, Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. - Inclusive recruitment process with reasonable adjustments available; applications reviewed by Talent Acquisition without automated filtering. - Corporate Social Responsibility programme encouraging staff contribution to community and environmental initiatives.
