About this role
Role overview Lead an engineering team while staying hands-on in the codebase. You will guide a team of roughly 10–11 engineers, work closely with product managers, and strengthen delivery practices so fixes remain fixed. The role combines technical contribution, architecture and code review, people leadership, and accountability for engineering quality and cadence.
Responsibilities - Write code, review architectural decisions, and stay closely informed about the systems and projects owned by the team. - Set expectations for commit cadence, code review depth, and release practices. - Build regression prevention into delivery, including test coverage and merge checks for previously fixed issues. - Manage a team of approximately 10–11 engineers through regular one-to-ones, hiring, prioritization, and performance support. - Partner daily with embedded product managers while coordinating across teams without direct authority over Product. - Use AI-assisted development tools as part of the team's regular engineering workflow.
Requirements - At least seven years of engineering experience and three years managing eight or more engineers directly. - Strong current coding ability and confidence reviewing pull requests in depth. - Experience establishing engineering rhythms for commits, reviews, and releases. - A track record of addressing root causes and preventing regressions through tests and delivery safeguards. - Familiarity with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, or distributed data systems, or the ability to ramp up quickly. - Comfort working in a startup or scale-up environment and partnering across functions without formal authority.
Nice to have - Experience with Java 21, Spring WebFlux, ClickHouse, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes, or AWS. - Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools.
