About this role
Role overview
Own and improve cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines, and operational visibility across a portfolio that includes production AI products and older systems in need of modernization. You’ll lead infrastructure changes such as moving suitable workloads to managed Kubernetes and consolidating CI/CD, while setting security standards, improving reliability, and helping engineering teams adopt consistent practices.
Responsibilities
- Build and operate AWS environments using Terraform and Ansible, including Docker-based services and managed Kubernetes; migrate appropriate workloads from virtual machines to Kubernetes. - Maintain GitHub Actions pipelines and transition remaining Jenkins workflows where suitable. - Enforce security controls such as protected origins, least-privilege access, secrets rotation, regular patching, and non-root containers. - Run monitoring, alerting, logging, on-call response, incident reviews, backups, and recurring restore checks. - Track and reduce cloud costs through tagging, rightsizing, and cleanup; estimate infrastructure needs for new work. - Audit undocumented systems, bring them under infrastructure-as-code and delivery standards, and advise new projects on hosting and production readiness. - Set standards with internal teams and contractors, document infrastructure, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- At least five years in DevOps or SRE, including three or more years operating AWS production environments at scale. - Advanced Terraform skills, strong Ansible experience, and practical experience designing production CI/CD with GitHub Actions. - Production Docker and Kubernetes experience, including AWS EKS and Helm. - Hands-on platform security, secrets management, patching, incident response, and verified backup restoration experience. - English proficiency at B2 level or higher. - Autonomous approach to identifying infrastructure risks and proposing practical improvements.
Nice to have
- Experience supporting Node.js or Python services, PostgreSQL, Redis, or web stacks involving WordPress, Nginx, PHP-FPM, and MySQL. - Familiarity with Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Cloudflare security tools, or infrastructure scanning tools. - Kafka, ClickHouse, Backstage, Sentry, Langfuse, Jenkins, or relevant AWS or Kubernetes certifications. - Experience leading a small DevOps team or using AI developer tools in daily engineering work.
Benefits and work setup
- Fully remote contract role with a Monday–Friday schedule of 2–11 p.m. Eastern European Time, including a one-hour break. - Paid time off and sick leave, shorter Friday hours during summer, and days off on U.S. national holidays and your birthday.
