Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the backend pod powering the sportsbook experience, the Java and Spring services behind event data, pricing and odds, betslip and bet placement, cash out, and the high-throughput APIs and streaming feeds that serve web, native, and retail clients. The role blends people leadership, delivery ownership, and hands-on technical contribution in a regulated, low-latency environment.
Responsibilities - Lead a backend team of engineers, running regular one-to-ones, stand-ups, and performance and career conversations, and own workforce planning and hiring. - Track sprint progress, refine the backlog, and work with Product to break down requirements into well-scoped features and stories. - Stay close to the code by reviewing pull requests, contributing to design and architecture, debugging production issues, and pairing on hard problems in Java and Spring services. - Own the reliability, latency, and correctness of the services the team runs, with strong observability, on-call practices, and learning from incidents, including in-play peaks and major sporting events. - Champion the company's move to become an AI-first organisation, reinforcing responsible use of approved AI coding and operations tools and keeping the team engaged with AI initiatives.

Benefits and work setup - Competitive pay and benefits package. - Flexible vacation allowance and a hybrid or remote working environment. - Startup culture backed by a secure, global brand, with a stated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity.
