Role overview Tax Operations Advocate positions on a team that ensures payroll tax filings and payments are processed accurately and on time for a large base of small business customers. The work is hands-on and operations-focused, blending customer service, research, and process improvement in a deadline-driven environment. Success comes from a sharp eye for detail, comfort with fast-changing priorities, and a willingness to dig into root causes.
Responsibilities - Process and file customer tax payments and filings accurately across various technology platforms by established deadlines. - Proactively troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and implement preventative measures to avoid repeat errors. - Partner with cross-functional teams across compliance, product, and engineering to ensure smooth tax operations and share feedback on tooling. - Serve as a liaison with tax agencies and internal stakeholders to represent customers accurately and reach favorable outcomes. - Identify and execute process improvements, including opportunities where automation and AI can drive efficiency at scale. - Deliver responsive, solutions-oriented support to customers whose tax needs span onboarding through ongoing compliance.
Requirements - At least one year of experience in operations or payroll, ideally within a fast-paced setting. - Customer-first mindset with a passion for service and problem resolution. - Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, and navigate ambiguity. - Solid written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork. - Demonstrated problem-solving ability and an improvement-oriented mindset that challenges the status quo. - Working knowledge of Excel; ability to learn new software and tools quickly, including AI-powered platforms.
Nice to have - Familiarity with payroll processes (tax filing experience itself is not required). - Proficiency in Excel and exposure to AI tools for automation, data analysis, or process improvement.
