Engineering Manager - Observability | Germany | Remote

Role overview A fully remote engineering management role based in Germany, leading an ingest-focused engineering team within a large-scale, cloud-native observability platform. The position centers on guiding distributed backend and frontend engineers who build configuration and deployment tooling that helps customers instrument applications and operate telemetry collectors at scale. The work blends people leadership, cross-functional collaboration with product and go-to-market teams, and technical oversight across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities - Lead and develop a distributed team of backend and frontend engineers, providing coaching, regular feedback, and support through structured career conversations. - Partner with go-to-market colleagues to ensure customers succeed with their collection and instrumentation journey. - Coordinate with product and engineering leadership to keep fleet management tooling, Kubernetes deployment tooling, and instrumentation onboarding experiences consistent with the broader cloud platform experience. - Guide the team from early ideation through planning, execution, and post-launch phases, reinforcing high-quality delivery. - Foster a psychologically safe environment that encourages learning, rapid experimentation, and continuous improvement. - Collaborate across team boundaries, contributing to projects beyond the immediate scope and partnering with other functions to resolve customer problems.

Requirements - Experience managing distributed engineering teams that ship production software. - Familiarity with observability concepts and tooling spanning metrics, logs, traces, and profiles. - Background working with cloud-native platforms, ideally including Kubernetes-based deployments. - Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, particularly with product and go-to-market partners. - Demonstrated ability to coach engineers across experience levels and support career development. - Comfort operating in a fully remote, globally distributed organization.

Nice to have - Hands-on exposure to open-source telemetry projects or instrumentation ecosystems. - Experience with collector fleet management or large-scale deployment tooling.
