Team Lead Kotlin Infrastructure

Role overview

This leadership role directs the infrastructure team behind a widely used programming language compiler and tooling ecosystem, treating developer infrastructure as a core product that enables hundreds of engineers. The Team Lead partners with a Technical Lead to shape long-term platform strategy, drive execution across multiple initiatives, and evolve engineering infrastructure spanning build systems, CI/CD, release automation, internal tooling, and developer experience. The position balances hands-on technical judgment with people leadership, planning, and cross-team alignment.

Responsibilities

- Define and drive the long-term evolution of infrastructure supporting Kotlin compiler and language tooling development, in partnership with the Technical Lead. - Own planning and prioritization across multiple infrastructure initiatives, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform investments. - Drive efforts that improve developer productivity and the overall developer experience across the engineering organization. - Support engineers through coaching, structured feedback, and hiring decisions. - Collaborate across teams to evolve build architecture, release infrastructure, engineering automation, and internal tooling. - Guide secure infrastructure practices covering dependency management, reproducible builds, secrets handling, access management, and build agent environments.

Requirements

- Experience leading engineering teams or steering large technical initiatives from planning through delivery. - Strong communication skills with a track record of aligning diverse engineering stakeholders and navigating architectural debates. - Hands-on familiarity with developer infrastructure, build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or internal engineering platforms at scale. - Understanding of software build architectures and engineering workflows in large codebases. - Ability to evaluate technical proposals, facilitate architectural discussions, and help teams converge on pragmatic decisions. - A passion for improving developer productivity through tooling, automation, and platform work, paired with an engineering mindset that values systemic efficiency and developer empathy over rigid process.

Nice to have

- Familiarity with TeamCity, Gradle and Kotlin build scripts, the Kotlin or JVM ecosystem, and operating large monorepositories. - Background in internal developer platforms, engineering productivity programs, or developer experience tooling.
