Remote job
Senior Software Engineer, Integrations
Job details
About this role
Role overview A remote-first nonprofit technology platform is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own and evolve its partner integration surfaces and public API. The work centers on the connective tissue between the platform and dozens of external tools, including CRMs, accounting systems, volunteer platforms, and AI assistants, with a deliberate focus on shaping APIs that AI agents can build against on behalf of nonprofit users.
Responsibilities - Own one or more partner integration surfaces end-to-end, maintaining coherence as adjacent teams iterate on them - Shape and extend the public API as its audience grows to include AI agents acting on behalf of non-developers - Spike, prototype, and de-risk new partnerships, including ambiguous or experimental integrations - Design and defend API contracts, webhook shapes, and data flows that external engineers and agents will depend on for years - Partner with an existing integrations lead, gradually expanding into shared ownership of additional surfaces - Translate needs across Product, Growth, Marketing, and occasionally external partner engineering teams
Requirements - 4+ years shipping production backend services on a modern web framework - Strong proficiency in PHP/Laravel, or rampable fluency from Rails, Django, or Spring - Deep familiarity with REST API design, HTTP semantics, and patterns that make an API worth integrating against - Comfort with SQL (MySQL specifically, or equivalent relational database experience) - Hands-on experience building against real-world third-party APIs, including imperfect documentation - Solid grasp of OAuth, webhooks, and trust-boundary decisions for a safe public API - Active daily use of terminal-based AI development tools (such as Claude Code or Cursor) with a disciplined review process - Comfort navigating an existing monorepo and contributing to an on-call rotation
Nice to have - Contributions to a public API you helped design, especially one that survived a major version change - Custom AI tooling, skills, or agent workflows built beyond off-the-shelf defaults - Opinions on API specification debates (OAuth 1 vs 2, JSON:API vs REST, GraphQL, and successors) - Prior experience in nonprofit or mission-driven environments
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within a defined set of US hub cities - 100% employer-covered Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plus HSA/FSA access - TalkSpace mental health membership included in health plans - 50% premium coverage for eligible dependents - 3% 401(k) match - Flexible, uncapped PTO plus company-recognized holidays - Company-wide wellness week off each summer - 12 weeks paid parental leave for all parents, supported by a leave planning service - Family care benefit providing a paid caregiver-matching membership plus care credits - Home office and coworking stipends - Charitable giving match up to $50/month and professional development reimbursement
