About this role
Role overview
A senior engineer is needed to architect and optimize a high-throughput, performance-based advertising platform that leverages machine learning and large-scale data pipelines to drive profitability and efficiency. The role blends deep hands-on coding with technical leadership on a small, high-impact team operating at extreme scale, with the service handling billions of requests per day.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and continuously optimize an advertising service capable of sustaining billions of daily requests. - Improve bidding algorithms through machine learning models to materially lift profitability within the first quarter. - Architect big-data pipelines and ensure data consistency between the data lake and downstream reporting caches. - Lead cost-efficiency initiatives that meaningfully reduce data processing spend within six months. - Maintain a steady delivery cadence against weekly sprint commitments while presenting progress and demos in recurring team standups. - Participate actively in code reviews and lead periodic internal knowledge-sharing sessions on engineering practices.
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in Python, plus strong working knowledge of at least one of Go or Node.js. - Demonstrated ownership of product-level architecture, projects, and personal deliverables. - Strong collaboration skills across pair programming, whiteboarding, code reviews, and product or business discussions. - Comfort presenting in group settings and engaging in daily technical discussions. - A pragmatic mindset that weighs short-term gains against long-term system stability and is willing to take calculated risks. - Working understanding of the strengths and pitfalls of AI coding agents, with hands-on experience using them to write, review, and collaborate on code.
Nice to have
- Background operating services at extreme request volumes and managing large-scale data infrastructure. - Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Iceberg-style data lakes, Vue.js, Docker-based container orchestration, and AWS services such as Lambda, Firehose, and Glue. - Prior success in a fully remote or hybrid team with periodic in-person collaboration.
Benefits and work setup
- Flexible remote or hybrid work environment. - Competitive compensation with equity opportunities and performance bonuses. - 401(k) plus health, dental, and vision coverage. - Daily lunch stipend, periodic reimbursements for Wi-Fi, cell phone, and subscriptions, plus an annual hardware stipend. - Flexible paid time off and biannual company offsite gatherings.
