Senior Backend Engineer, Deployment Environments

Role overview

A senior backend engineering role focused on the systems that provision and manage deployment environments for a developer platform. The work centers on making those environments fast, reliable, and easy for engineers and end users to use. This is a remote position open to candidates located in Canada and the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

- Design and build backend services that create, configure, and tear down deployment environments - Improve the speed, reliability, and cost efficiency of environment provisioning - Work closely with infrastructure, security, and product teams to meet platform requirements - Write automated tests and contribute to operational practices such as monitoring and on-call rotations - Participate in architecture discussions, code review, and design documentation - Mentor teammates and help evolve engineering standards across the team

Requirements

- Significant professional experience as a backend engineer, ideally in a senior or staff-adjacent role - Proficiency in one or more backend languages, with willingness to work in the team's primary stack - Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, containers, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code tooling - Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and the developer experience around deployments - Strong written communication and a track record of collaborating in remote, distributed teams

Nice to have

- Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar infrastructure tooling - Prior work on developer platforms, internal tooling, or environment-management products - Comfort designing APIs consumed by other engineers
