Backend Software Engineer Python AWS - Trading

Role overview This position is a hands-on backend engineering role inside the asset management division of a large investment bank, focused on building and running the trading systems that support front, middle and back office operations. The work combines Python development with cloud and DevOps engineering, with the engineer taking ownership of projects from architecture through to production deployment.

Responsibilities - Design and develop high-performance trading systems that process significant volumes of market and trading data. - Build and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS, focusing on security, resilience and high availability. - Translate complex requirements from traders, investment professionals and business stakeholders into scalable technical solutions. - Drive engineering best practice across the team, including automation, DevOps, CI/CD and containerisation. - Take ownership of projects end-to-end, covering architecture, design, implementation, deployment and ongoing platform improvement. - Contribute occasional front end work where needed to support broader delivery.

Requirements - Advanced, hands-on backend development experience in Python. - Strong knowledge of AWS services, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines and containerisation. - Demonstrated experience working in a Front Office trading or similar fast-paced financial environment. - Proven track record of owning the full software delivery lifecycle and proactively identifying problems and solutions. - Pragmatic mindset with strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction.

Nice to have - Comfort with occasional front end development tasks alongside the core backend work.
